2022 Duvall Days Grand Marshal

Dr. Anthony Smith, Riverview School District Superintendent (retired)

Dr. Anthony L. Smith has been chosen to be the Grand Marshal of our 2022 Duvall Days Festival.

Dr. Smith has served students, staff, families, and the community in Riverview for 28 of his 39 years in public education He began his career as a teacher, and has served in Riverview as a counselor, principal, director, assistant superintendent, and most recently, as superintendent.

During the past twenty years, he has worked collaboratively with others to prepare our students for their futures.  That time span has been characterized by many accomplishments, due to working together with an unwavering focus on our students.

He is a member of WASA (Washington Association of School Administrators),  WSSDA (Washington State School Directors' Association), and the Rotary Club of Duvall.

He is an accomplished trumpet player, is married to his beautiful wife, Cathy, and has two children, Roderick, and Tiana.

Please wish him well in this new chapter in his life. He has earned it.

What the nominators said about Dr. Smith

Because he has done many great things for the community and the school in all his years in the valley.

Anthony has done so much for the Riverview School District and for the communities of Duvall and Carnation. The Grand Marshal would be a wonderful way for him to celebrate the community and vice versa.

As a long-time member of the community and advocate for students of Riverview School District he is deserving of this role.

He has been a connection, supportive leader in our community for a long time and could use a big Thank You!

Anthony has been a pillar in our community decades, and has served as School Superintendent for the past 9 years. He retires this summer, and it would be a lovely beginning into his retirement!!

He is very engaged in the community and as Riverview School Superintendent retiree and involved Rotarian is a natural selection for this years Grand Marshal.

He has done a fantastic job leading Riverview district during his tenure. He’s made the district better through his leadership during trying times. What better way to say thank you on his last year as superintendent?

He has served our community and school district for many years and, unfortunately, his last few years have been incredibly challenging due to the pandemic. This is Anthony’s last year because he is retiring. I think it would be a great way for the community to honor someone who has worked so hard for our families.

He deserves a grand celebration for all the years of dedication and involvement as superintendent.
